The Benefits of Sweet Potato
It's been a year since lockdown started but it's also a year since I first used sweet potato in my routine. Huh? Yes... Sweet potato! If you aren’t keen to DIY or having fun with your hair, you can just enjoy eating it and don't worry about the rest of this post.
It's been a year since lockdown started but it's also a year since I first used sweet potato in my routine. Huh? Yes... Sweet potato!
If you aren’t keen to DIY or having fun with your hair, you can just enjoy eating it and don't worry about the rest of this post. Lol
So I cooked some potaaaytoes in foil, in the oven. Kept it in its skin to preserve all the goodness while it cooked.
I only used half of a potato for experimental reasons.
Once peeled, I placed the cooked flesh into a bowl, added some honey, avo oil and a bit of conditioner (to achieve the required consistency) and blended it, creating a whipped texture.
I applied the mixture to my hair and sat with my deep conditioning cap. I waited for the "Wow, definition." or "wow, moisture for days" but it wasn't an obvious or immediate difference. What I did notice was that my hair felt really soft that week. Soft, yet strong.
So I did some reading and research:
- It's packed with nutrients which help with hair thinning, hair loss, adding shine and moisture to strands
- Nutrients such as Vitamin A, B1. B6, C, D, and E. Iron, magnesium and Beta carotene (which somehow creates collagen) included in your diet can assist with a glowing complexion. The collagen would be the reason for glowing skin
- The Vitamin boosts the production of scalp oil. This is great for assisting with sealing in moisture into the hair
- It also feeds Omega fatty acids into the scalp to assist with shine
I'm sure there are many other benefits but those are the ones that stuck with me. I don't use it regularly in my routine but I try to every second month, or so.
Give it a try and see if you can notice a difference in your hair. Use it as a pre-poo without adding the conditioner or use it as a deep conditioner.
Given the benefits for skin, you could even whip up a decadent face mask.
Let us know if and when you've tried it. 😊
LEKKER "PATAT"!
